We get asked a bunch of questions pretty much every day now. "Drupal 7 EOL is coming at the end of 2022. Are you going to support it? For how long? What do I need to do?"

The thing that we really don't get asked enough is "When should I sign-up?"

Obviously, nobody wants to spend money any sooner than they have to. So, they assume that they can sign-up in November 2022. Everything will go great, right? While we know there will be hundreds, if not thousands of site-owners clamoring for help in November 2022, and we are happy to try to help as many of them as we can. Let's talk through why that might not be the best timing.

1 Million Drupal 7 Sites

Sure, the number will likely decrease significantly by the end of 2022, but there are still thousands and thousands of Drupal 7 sites in operation. While we are "wizards", we still haven't mastered warping the laws of physics. There are limits to how many clients we can onboard at a time. We have to take them in the order they come to us. We have to prioritize the clients who already signed-up over prospective clients. Waiting until the last minute means you will not make the deadline.

Bad Guys Know the Deadline Too

I hope I'm wrong about this, but it sure would be smart if you had an exploit that could generate you a few million in bitcoin to wait to deploy it until right after community support ended, right? There are also always things that impact PHP, MySQL, and later versions of Drupal that need to be factored into backports for Drupal 7. I'd sure want to be secured well before that!

Your Site Is Complex

You have a complex site that works great, or you'd have upgraded by now. You either have no developers on staff, or they have more important things to do. Do you really want them worrying about your site security updates? For less than your office Starbucks budget, you can get a Drupal security WIZARD to watch over your site.

You Get Better Pricing

Finally, money does matter! We lock your per site pricing in at current pricing. November 2022 rolls around, you don't get a price increase, and you have a fixed budget for the foreseeasble future.
