Drupal 7? What About Drupal 6 & 8?

Drupal 8 is the future of Drupal. No doubt. It's awesome.

Drupal 6 is still a reality for a large number of critical websites.

At myDropWizard, we spent a lot of time focusing on Drupal 6 over the past almost 2 years. We love the service we are able to provide to our Drupal 6 clients - I think most of them love our service too!

We've also spent a lot of time thinking about the future of Drupal 8 - just like you probably have.

What About Drupal 7?

According to Drupal.org, there are:

  • a slowly shrinking 77,191 Drupal 6 sites
  • a slowly growing 133,498 Drupal 8 sites
  • 975,542 Drupal 7 sites in production!

Almost a MILLION Drupal 7 websites. That number fluctuates a bit as you can see, but it has been holding pretty steady near that peak of nearly a million. That's pretty remarkable really.

Obviously, we have to have a solution for the great majority of Drupalers. Thankfully we do.

We Love All That Is Drupal!

It's not any great revelation that the demand for our Drupal 6 services will no doubt shrink over time.

(Don't worry, we still have you D6 site owners covered for a LONG time!)

We do believe Drupal 8 is the right platform to build for the future. Drupal 8 will be around a long time, and the upgrade path is much more forgiving.

So, what about those million Drupal 7 websites? This is the vast majority of Drupal websites. As efforts increasingly shift to a Drupal 8 upgrade - which is costly and time-consuming - of course we offer fantastic service for Drupal 7.

What We Offer to Drupal 7 Site Owners

I think that it's time more Drupal 7 website operators should and will look to outsource their Drupal Support & Maintenance to myDropWizard. Here's a little more information about what we offer.

Our Basic Plan allows you to get automatic updates for $99/month. You get security updates installed on the same day they are released! I don't know if you've spent much time with Drupal 7, but staying on top of updates and making sure they don't break other parts of your site, that could easily cost you 3-5x that depending on the number and scope of the security updates that month.

That's aside from the peace of mind. I used to operate dozens of Drupal 7 websites, and I am telling you, I would have jumped at the chance to have a service like this. It gets better.

Our Standard Plan - which is what most of our clients actually do sign-up for - includes all those security updates as well as an UNLIMITED number of support requests. I know, I know, when I hear about "Verizon's new unlimited" or "AT&T's unlimited", I know there is a catch. There's no catch here. Drupal site updates that a "Drupal Expert can complete in an hour or less": you get an unlimited number of those requests.

Things that are common support requests:

  • updating a Drupal View
  • updating non-security modules
  • adding a module
  • fixing small bugs
  • or even adding a simple landing page

Our Standard Plan is only $499/mo.

We are so sure of our services that you can cancel at any time!

I'm telling you this because I think our Drupal 7 services are even more impressive than our Drupal 6 services. Drupal 7 sites tend to be just a little more complex on average. Also, by nature of them being newer, they are often more mission critical and more actively updated.

What's the first step?

We give you a free, no-risk, no-commitment site audit. With the site audit, we address security concerns and evaluate some Drupal best-practices. When we onboard your site, we take care of any issues we find automatically!

Whether you are contemplating your Drupal 8 plans, thinking of abandoning Drupal for something else, or simply want to see how this can cut your costs (and stress), I would love to talk to you about how we can help you with Drupal 7.

Contact us about getting that free site audit right now!
